Keeping up with Tradition

Is it only me that dreams of a workspace that will hold my laptop, a pad and pen to document any sudden thought, a cup of tea and my little pal called an iPhone?

Absolutely not but even when I have a workspace such as this, I always find myself opting for my bed. I squeeze the pillows on my bed till they can hardly breathe. I justify my action by saying I am only trying to get comfortable. I do not bother bringing a cup of tea because I fear that I cannot cope with spillage. I do not bring a pad too because it is way too uncomfortable to scribble while trying to get comfy. That's why I have word so I click on it when a thought surfaces. Now that that bit is taken care of, there is a slight tingle in the nape of my neck. I begin thinking of that workspace again - Filled with dust accumulated from over the years. You would think I have come to a decision to make use of the space. I merely stare at it with the side of my eyes, sometimes eyeing it before turning my eyes away to something more appealing than a desk pilled up with dust.
I am reminded that I do the same when the semester comes into session. I label my books neatly, gather all the necessary items into my stationary purse and after a quick run through, I shove all into my bag. I keep up with this for two weeks and even commending myself for a job well done. In the third week, I find my sheets taking over my room, hardly a pen in my purse and in lectures, no book to write in so I use my planner.
You'd ask where did all the passion go?
I'd say there is just a thing about tradition that makes me go nuts.
So maybe I have identified my weakness and maybe this year that is slowly creeping in would be a year to revert to the old, vibrant me with a love for traditions.

Happy new year. Wish you all the best, much love and a glorious year ahead.

Its coming to an end too soon

December is coming to an end.
The once perpetual year is also gathering its sticks for a shut down of its stalls. Then what you remember is that you hardly had the time within those 365 days to reflect upon the days. So you get down to business. But  first you question with amusement how long, maybe days ago you said your happy cheer to usher in the new year.

You vividly recall those memories, more like times you treasure. He sat there. She sat there. They sat there all gathered around a round table. Their happy chatters could be heard from across the street. We were up to our family tradition.

Today, there has been a repeat and how glorious was it that a tear streaming down the sides of your cheeks was inevitable.

Another year is slowly creeping in. And you consider yourself braced up for it. Just like last year which would become two years in no time.

You begin your retrospection in a more profound manner. Plucking information and weighing it against previous years. You're gripped with fear. A tad weakened to go any further but you know if you don't, how else can you prove your love for dynamics and improvement?

So you give it a try. The results alarming. A surprising mix between negativity and positivity. You proved yourself on top of your game in this area, a little relaxed in the other but that does not deter you. Challenges are were you draw your greatest harvest from. So with a loud cry you say amendments shall be made. Not forgetting to dash right to it even though all you have left is four days.

Beyond the Veil

As far as Tom could recall,
It was the day of the storm. The trees shook and Tom feared that the trees might get uprooted from its roots. He told Mr Mosley as he shivered from the cold. "I swear it scared the crap out of me. The lighting sent me tumbling down. Heaven knows I could have been struck dead"
"Calm down son and give me a full sketch of the story" Mr Mosley said trying to get Tom settled so he could speak. He took the jacket laying idly on the desk to wipe off Tom's damp hair. "C'mon, go ahead son. I am all ears" He said while giving him a nudge with his hands.
Mr Mosley was a retired police officer in Mainland. He had retired just five years ago with William, a fellow colleague and close friend of his. They both ran a repair store together to keep body and soul together after so many years in the police force.
"It was sunny when I set out"
"You know I didn't drag you all the way up here to get a detailed account of the weather. Do you mind cutting to the chase?"
"I apologize sire. I thought it might come in handy on the case"
"I doubt it would ever be. What I seek from you now is a thorough description of the people you caught a glimpse of in the storm.

Introducing Death to the Stock Photo - A Photograhy Website

I recently signed up to this website "Death to the Stock Photo" after reading a blog. The blogger went on about how the website offered her free pictures that made her blogging less strenuous. I decided to try it out thinking that it would not hurt.

I said to myself, "I can always unsubscribe if they prove to be worthless". I crossed my fingers while I went on the website to sign up. About 20 - 30 minutes, I was sent a folder of pictures. In it were ten pictures. I would be sharing it with you but before I do, I would like to urge every blogger or anyone into photography to go sign up.

Here's a screen shot of the website.
The rest you can figure out yourself.

Once you sign up, a pack of 10 photos would be sent to you within a specific category. It is free so you do not have to worry about paying each month.

A New Love for Anything Quaint

When it comes to designing (Home or a tiny section of the home), I usually make a pick at modern furnitures because I do have a rather absurd belief that they are more exotic, fresh and beautiful to gaze at. This is no other reason than my ignorant self attaching aesthetic qualities to anything modern and tossing an "X"sign at anything I deem quaint.
As a result, I become blind to anything that has an unusual structure. At times expressing disgust and if I am away from scrutinizing eyes, I can be found cursing. A rather unique way of expressing disgust. I feel shy that I have to share that with you but it is the truth.
About six or seven months ago, when boredom was eating deep. For some reason boredom has its way of dealing with me. I took to the streets of downtown Toronto with a friend and my sister. We did not have a destined destination and so we were found galavanting about. We were in search of anything that proved itself to be interesting. And that's when we found Putti. Prior to this, we had graced a couple of stores and from the looks on our faces, you could tell that we were beyond satisfied. We were getting a little weary from all the sightseeing. We wanted home. At least that's what I thought until I was pulled into this........store. My words cannot quantify how irritated I felt. I was bemused at the reason why my friend wanted to go in and she could clearly read that in my facial expression. She kept apologizing. I felt bad and finally caved in.
We entered the store, a little crowded and uninviting until we came to another section of the store. I could not contain the excitement I felt and I immediately pulled my phone from where I had it and begun taking pictures. I am glad to say its here I developed my love for "the quaint".

So here, I present to you Putti.

Whispers and no words

No one told us that when 2 + 0 sum up to become 20 and not 2, that our lives would be turned inside out. That the whole fantasy of adulthood would become a nightmare. And while we struggle to walk tall in a world that seems so familiar, that confusion would begin to set itself majestically with a smile. A smile, to see how long we can hold in for. How long we can battle with confusion and navigate our way somehow through numerous pathways.

No one told us that wisdom was not something to be tossed at us but instead, was earned through experience and if luck permits for obvious reasons such as thickheadedness, during swell times with adults. Hopefully, during such times, we realize its time to have our ears to the ground so we can take heed to words spoken by the old and presumably wise ones.

You're not alone in this Clueless game

I am pretty sure that the man in the great looking suit is as clueless as I am. At least that is what I like to think.  That even though he might put up a gallant stance and when we do speak, he might be the perfect gentleman with fine manners. He might sweep me off my feet with his chivalrous words and I would whisper most seductively.
"You are far too kind" Flipping my invisible mane from the nape of my neck.
He might have that spiky blonde or black locks tied into a ponytail but if you ask me, needs a great deal of wash. I can hardly hold up my distance beside him because of the stench from those dreads. I would like to think that such a fetid

Chat - Up Lines

Hello fam,

So I have this beautiful poster that has been ripped up by its sides hanging on my wall. I was not the one that put it up for display. I found it there when I moved in to my rented basement apartment and I thought I should retain it because of its ridiculous content. I was thinking of what to share with you guys today and I could barely come up with something creative. And so I scanned my cute kitchen looking for something that I could easily prey on and transform into a blog post. There it was at last with its red and white hue screaming at me for some attention. I was reluctant at first like a young bride not sure whether she should kiss her beau or just wait until he makes the first move. I was not one to wait for too long. Erm lets just say in this instance so I grabbed my lappy in haste as I begun typing this post. So here it is. I would advice you to get comfy by snuggling yourself under a duvet with a cup of hot chocolate while you read this because it's going to be fun fun fun all the way.

Am I loosing my sense to spell?

I wonder, should I be asking myself such an obvious question when I am still cajoled to use abbreviations and acronyms while texting friends?

YES!

And I say that in fine block letters if you didn't take note. I should state that the inspiration for this post surfaced because of my inability to spell the word "straight" correctly. I found myself helpless while I continuously pressed the backspace button on my computer.
Should the "i" in straight come before the "a"?
Erm no clue. At least not at that moment. I was more interested in uncovering the reason why a pink line still appeared even after several wipes. It was obvious that I had switched some letters around. Well, that's the only explanation I could come up with for the incessant appearance of a pink line. It was then it came to my awareness that I was gradually loosing my sense to spell. I froze in shock as I uncovered this fact. It would be much easier to push all the blame on my constant employment of short forms during text messaging. I mean, I had to fit into the social circle somehow even if I had to give up my sense to spell.
I am not sure how wise of a decision that is and I am wondering should I be bothered about it since in a way, it cannot be helped?

The solemn song

Hey there!
So I recently decided to pull my writing pad out and believe you me, I was in awe of what beauty that laid inside it. I found a poem which I had written years back when I was in a downcast state. I decided it would be fun to take a peep at it and perhaps while I did so, criticize my writing. I engaged in the process jokingly because I was convinced beyond every reasonable doubt that it was time to make a mockery of myself. So I took to the sofa, adjusting my butt till it found the most suitable spot to call home.
Now that I was settled, I begun reading each and every word I penned down. One thing I realized early as I read the first two lines was that I was buried in shock. It didn't take much for me to come to terms why. I realized that I was astounded not because of the way I structured the poem but because of the images that I begun to paint as I read further. I think this is the key thing I am trying to emphasize in this post - Our state of mind structures our perceptions. Hence to put it plainly, I was not taken aback when my thoughts and writing was tilted towards a melancholy state.

I would like to know your stand.
Do you think your mind has the possibility of structuring your thoughts?
Is it possible to have full control of the process?

Here's the poem. I hope it speaks to you as much as it did to me.

It is my silent song of lament

Constructing the "Ideal Self"

I guess when you reach a certain point in life, there is a thought that is always lingering around but does not exactly settle until you take that extra step to pull out a seat and observe a quick quiet time. It is only then you are fully able to dissect it and get a proper glimpse of the situation.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. Perhaps it is  because I am around that age where my frontal lobe is developing hence I can be more rational about my environment, policies and most importantly my life. Its no wonder I am beginning to detest noise as I would just like for once to sit peacefully and let my imaginations run wild and paint pictures on my behalf or its no wonder most times I am asked the same question
         "Are you okay?"
because I am beginning to relish quietness.

Oreo Wonderfilled Anthem

Oreo always has one of the best advertisements.
And no I am not just throwing words or making a rash statement because I am a lover of the dark and creamy cookie. My love for it is only a prove that the company has surrounded itself with a good marketing team that is responsible for driving and making things happen.

Now, why do I consider this to be good advertisement? Could it be because of the well crafted lyrics that is available to be downloaded for free on the company's website? Yay! Go Oreos. Or the colourful pictures and enjoyable narration? I wish those were the major driving forces of my decision but they barely came into play here.

I was simply impressed with the message and the extent they went in promoting it. The message being that with  Oreos you can flip everything around which is less of a wonder when the advertisement ends with the words "wonder if I gave an oreo to you" Its almost like a cliffhanger and they leave you to decide what an Oreo would flip around for you. Hunger or .... It's up to you to decide.

The Giver or Receiver in a Relationship

I have overheard people arguing as if their lives depended on it that a man should be the giver in a relationship and the woman, the receiver. Each time I hear this, I cringe and I am almost provoked to put an end to their idle talks but you know how stupid I would look jumping into a strangers conversation. So all I do is to cringe and cringe till I cannot do so anymore. No one needs to tell me to look for the next available seat. Then I ask what was I doing not minding my own business?

Moving on,

I hate to offend anyone with my statement but I solely believe that no one has the sole role of "a receiver" and "a giver" in a relationship. It is true that the man might give more out of affection or he might just be the kind of guy that loves his lady to look good so he spoils her with gifts. I see no problem with that but I do when a lady cannot take the initiative of returning the same favour. The
only time she feels it is right for her to do so, is perhaps during his birthday, maybe on valentine's day and christmas. Who says a gift should be handed only on special occasions?

Experience, the new song

I find it funny that our song towards education is constantly changing. I guess one of the main reasons for this change would be because of the way society is structured. We live in a dynamic society, where things are constantly changing. If we look back to the time when we were born and how society is now, we'll see that there is an enormous difference in how things were and are now ordered. If you do not believe me, try it. The quickest way is  to look at how technologies has evolved over the past few years. There was a time when a diskette was heavily relied upon to store information and slowly the use of a CD and USB became later innovations after this.
Similarly, lego used to be the acceptable toy for a child in the 60's but now it is a whole new story as we see kids this days with iPads and console games.

Silly Games

I was opportune to grace a couple of events some months back and I encountered what I tag as "Interesting Findings." Some of it made me smile and some forced my body to ooze with irritation. For the purpose of this post, I would classify my observations into two categories.

Note - I do exaggerate quite a lot.

I noticed that before a show commences, a natural cycle of both sexes is formed. Guys are usually stationed at one corner, often loud and chatting about irrelevant topics. They do not fail to put on a stylish stance as they chat

5 Things not to do this Summer

I came up with a list of five things I thought were not summer appropriate because you probably did them all winter and spring. I do not expect you all to agree with me that's why I am posing a challenge to my readers.

This the way it would go. If you disagree let me know why you do. For the neutral readers, let me know the five things you would rather not do this summer. Anyone can post. There might be a surprise for the most creative list so get the list coming.

Remember you cannot repeat what I have posted or that of anyone.

Here are my five things
1) Watch Tons of Movies at the Cinema - I do not expect anyone to spend most of their time this summer at the movies.  I do not see how that is fun when you can possibly go out to do something more entertaining and worthwhile. Do not get me wrong, its okay to watch a few movies during summer. A selected few would be appropriate but do not go crazy with it. If you are the kind that

Summer with the Bikey

So summer is fast approaching and I know a lot of you have been singing the phrase "I can't wait till summer approaches".

I'm not sure how many times I have uttered that phrase in the past few weeks but I know for sure that if I was to be fined for the amount of times I did, I would probably be in debt by now. I
Know I am not alone. We all can't wait for the feel of the hot sun over our body.
Just a few days ago with the same eagerness, I stumbled on a website that manufactures bikes. I sat there starring into space and wondering about what better way to enjoy summer with a non conventional kind of bike. How fun would it be? The occasional stares and thoughts from passer-by and possibly questions you can't help but laugh hard at.

"Ooh that's a cool bike. Where did you get that from?"
"Is that custom made?"

An accidental Encounter

I never dreamed that I would have such an experience. I am still dazzled though. Two years ago I innocently took my writing pad out and I wrote a poem on this topic without realizing that I would be faced with a similar situation in the future. I guess life has a way of surprising you.

So today after a long day of school (11am-10pm), I decided to head home right away because I was a bit fagged out. I left the lecture hall with a friend and we got talking about random stuff as usual when suddenly I saw a very familiar face and knowing how happy I get when I see someone I know, I immediately rushed over to say hello without a second thought to it.

My friend had his hand wide open in preparation for a hug which I responded to. A little warmth from the cold would not hurt. Anyway, we were both excited to see each other after what seemed to be like forever. Although one thing threw us into deep thoughts. We
